A WARM, STREAMLINED KITCHEN

TO FIT A FAMILY OF THREE.

S + N needed a new kitchen.

Their existing kitchen was a true testament to the 90’s, a time when dark woods + varying heights of millwork were all the rage. But in this age of light + bright kitchens, they needed a space that felt bigger, brighter, more modern, and most of all: more functional.

They had three major items on their wish list:

  1. A (much) bigger island that would allow them to face into the kitchen + also face out into the living room, where the TV + fireplace was located.

  2. A lot more storage, along with more efficient storage solutions.

  3. A lighter, brighter, and easier to clean space. They were sick of wiping down the shaker profiles and the tops of the upper cabinets, and they had too many small pieces of countertop that collected junk.

Our first step was to remove the corner pantry, which gave us room to extend the existing countertop on either side of the range. It also allowed us to build in a wall of full-height millwork that provides ample storage for dry goods, appliances, and extra cookware.

We maximized the size of the island for extra prep space and incorporated wraparound seating, large drawers for pots + pans, and pull-outs for garbage and recycling.

The finishes were kept sleek and simple, letting the beauty of the white oak millwork + floors take the spotlight, contrasted by the white upper cabinets + black hardware throughout.
